Katsina State Empowers Military Widows and Children of Fallen Heroes Through Skills Training and Support

On Monday, 15th September, I had the privilege of receiving the Military Widows Association in my office. The delegation, ably led by their Chairperson, Mrs. Hafsat Ya’u Usman, paid me a courtesy visit to introduce themselves and share the inspiring work they have been doing in service to the families of our fallen heroes.

This remarkable Association, established just over two years ago, has become a beacon of hope for widows and children of gallant soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice on the battlefield. Today, they proudly cater for over 200 women and have successfully trained more than 300 children, aged 16–20, in vital vocational skills such as shoemaking, Turaren wuta production, soap-making, and salon services. At the end of each training, participants not only graduate with certificates of completion but also receive ₦10,000 support, made possible through the kind assistance of the Katsina State Government.

During our discussions, I warmly commended their selfless dedication to empowering these young people to grow into self-reliant and productive members of society. I assured them that the Ministry of Women Affairs will work closely with the Association to ensure that both the widows and their children are fully included in our empowerment programs. In addition, I pledged to support the graduation of their second batch of trainees, who are currently concluding their training.

Their visit was a profound reminder of our shared responsibility to stand with the families of those who gave their lives for peace and security. By empowering widows and nurturing the potential of their children, we are not only honoring the memory of our heroes but also building a stronger, more inclusive Katsina State.
